Cancer Exercise: What is it?

Cancer Exercise Specialist has trained for a higher level of mastery to work with cancer patients during and after cancer surgery and treatment and into survivorship. A CES is trained to understand the entire cancer process from diagnosis and treatment to reconstruction and survivorship. Our unique and individualized programming will help to improve the patient’s ability to cope with the mental and physical stress following cancer diagnosis and treatment.

A Cancer Exercise Specialist (CES) works with you to promote health outcomes and overall quality of life. A CES has the qualifications to work in conjunction with your primary care physician or specialist depending on what outcomes that are desired. Our comprehensive program goes over the following:

- Range of Motion/Mobility

- Lymphedema Management and Drainage Exercises

- Corrective Exercise - Muscle Imbalances

- Balance and Fall Prevention

- Minimizing treatment side-effects and preventing co-morbidities such as osteoporosis, diabetes, heart disease, lymphedema, and future cancers

- Losing body fat/increasing lean muscle mass

- Stress Management and Self Care

Cancer Exercise Specialist: When would I need it?

A CES is most useful when your physician or care provider has been encouraging you to begin an exercise program, but you may not have the exercise background to know how to safely begin one.  We have a conservative approach when working with medical patients with gradual improvements and goals. Whether it's your first time stepping into a gym, or you're coming back months after finishing your treatment, we are committed to delivering a safe, challenging program that fits you exactly where you are in your current fitness.

How to get started: To begin an orientation at MiHealth, our members must first fill out the online form below. It is important to note that completing these forms is NOT a contract to sign up with MiHealth. The purpose of these forms is so we can preview any medical conditions and determine eligibility prior to beginning any exercise program.  If a clearance is required we will reach out to get clarification on the medical concern and send a copy of a physician's clearance to get your physician's recommendations for an exercise program.  This can all be done VIA Email/MyChart
